Introducing Ben

Ben has had a passion for extreme and remote environments for as long as he can remember. He first visited the polar regions with a trip to Svalbard in 2012 and snowmobiled more than 500 miles around Spitsbergen over the course of an incredible week, and has been hooked ever since!

Ben is a qualified ski instructor and spent his earlier years working in the ski industry, before following his real passion and specialising in polar travel from 2017.

When not either visiting or helping clients visit Antarctica or the Arctic, Ben is trying to keep up with his two young sons on mountain bikes in the hills and woods of West Sussex.

What Do You Recommend Taking With You On a Polar Cruise?

An open mind. This might sound a cliché but every expedition is totally different and embracing the unknown is part of the adventure. While it’s very likely you’ll see lots of wildlife, it’s not a given. The expedition team work very hard to ensure you visit the right places at the right time to maximise wildlife sightings and landings.

That aside, a great camera with a video function is a must for me. You’ll want to record the amazing moments you experience, to relive in the future and make your friends jealous of your travels!

What Questions Do You Ask To Help Decide Which Is The Right Expedition Cruise?

Are you looking for an active trip with lots of time on land or do you prefer something more sedate?

What are the absolute musts for this trip, that we can control? It might be a cabin with a balcony, a ship under 100 guests or flying over the Drake Passage instead of sailing it.

Are you driven by specific dates you’re available or are you driven by maximising the chances of seeing certain wildlife or conditions?

How much are you looking to spend on the trip? Remember it’s the trip of a lifetime, and searching for bargains can detract from seeing and doing as much as you really want.
