Classic Arctic

At around 8 days in length, this voyage of discovery through the frozen Arctic is perfect for those short on time or looking for a great introduction to the polar regions. Experience all of the richness the archipelago has to offer: impressive history and geography, breath-taking views, and extraordinary wildlife.

  • Spot polar bears and whales from the deck of your ship
  • Cruise through breath-taking fjords and marvel at immense glaciers
  • See the midnight sun

Day 1: Longyearbyen, Norway

Arrive in Longyearbyen, where you will have a chance to explore the town before you depart for your adventure. In your free time explore the parish church, polar museum, and the old mining town before striking out to sea in the afternoon.

Days 2 - 7: Svalbard / Spitsbergen

Over these next unforgettable days, you’ll spend time exploring some of the most remote locations on the planet. There is no fixed programme for which sites you will visit; the expedition leader and captain decide each day, depending on which locations offer the best things to see and most favourable conditions for exploration.

Each evening there will be a briefing with the plan for the next day. Spend your days cruising past enormous glaciers and being awed by picturesque ice fields as well as taking in the beautiful views on land such as Arctic tundra and spiky snow-capped mountains.

Various excursions by zodiac will take you to dry land to get up-close to the wildlife including Arctic foxes and polar bears hunting their favourite prey, the seal. Keep a lookout for grazing reindeer and lounging walruses relaxing on the shore.

Birdlife is also plentiful and you may spot some impressive endemic birds such as common eiders, pink- footed geese, and ivory gulls soaring above their nests. There are 17 different species of whale in the Arctic so you can enjoy trying to spot as many as possible. On previous cruises, humpback, minke and killer whales (orcas) have all been spotted.

Every excursion is accompanied by the ship’s expert expedition team who will provide informative insights into the amazing things you are seeing. You can also attend on board lectures to gain further knowledge of the geology and wildlife of the Arctic.

Day 8: Disembarkation

Land in Longyearbyen and disembark the ship.
