The expedition team welcomes travellers on board the HANSEATIC inspiration, ready to sail through the Beagle Channel to the Falkland Islands.
Enjoy the many amenities of your ship as you relax on board whilst your captain sails towards the Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands are a dream destination for birdwatchers. The British Overseas Territory is home to over 60 bird species including the endemic Falkland pipit, as well as striated caracaras, Cape petrels and king cormorants. The islands are famous for their populations of black-browed albatrosses and wandering albatrosses which make skilful use of the wind to sail through the air without flapping their wings. Aside from the birdlife, there are also impressive traces of an eventful history to see.
The HANSEATIC inspiration takes your expedition to the next level with fascinating on board presentations by experts. Why not delve into personal studies in the Ocean Academy whilst your ship charts its course for South Georgia.
South Georgia is a subantarctic animal paradise also home to mighty glaciers and fjords that will truly captivate you. Huge, busy colonies of king penguins carpet the coasts and steep slopes. Hundreds of thousands of animals share the island with elephant seals and fur seals. After landing on its black shores, your adventures will be filled with bellowing fur seals and squabbling penguins. You’ll keep returning to the footsteps of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who found his final resting place here on South Georgia in 1922.
After the thrills of South Georgia, you're back on board and enjoying everything your incredible expedition vessel has to offer.
The South Shetland Islands form a long chain in the ocean. You will no doubt have heard of the legendary Elephant Island where Ernest Shackleton’s team held out for months. Only smaller expedition ships are able to sail into Deception Island. You'll then venture to the Antarctic Peninsula, where majestic glaciers and gigantic icebergs glint in Paradise Bay. Another impressive sight awaits in the Lemaire Channel, where mountains up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft) high line the spectacular sailing route here.
A mystical icy world lies in the Antarctic Sound and at the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Venture out on the deck and Zodiacs for impressive sights, and penguin sightings. The numerous tabular icebergs are particularly spectacular and will astound you with their size, shape and colour.
Spend the next two days enjoying your ship and relaxing as you sail across the Drake Passage towards Ushuaia.
Disembark in Ushuaia and board your flight to Buenos Aires for your return journey home.
