Named after the Norwegian polar explorer, Roald Amundsen who was the first person to reach the South Pole. Like its namesake, the MS Roald Amundsen is a pioneer in Polar expedition voyages. The ship is one of the first to feature a hybrid propulsion system that will not only reduce its fuel consumption but will show that large hybrid ships are possible. The Roald Amundsen will be joined by its sister ship the MS Fridtjof Nansen in 2019.

The ships hybrid-technology and other efficiency improvements will reduce the fuel consumption by approximately 20% and CO2 emissions from the ships by 20%. This amounts to more than 3000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

MS Roald Amundsen has 3 main restaurants the first is Aune Main Dining, named after the Norwegian ship chandler and polar expedition supplier Tinus Aune. The second is Fredheim - the ships’ informal and social meeting place – named after a 1900s hunting station on Svalbard and finally Lindstrøm, a speciality restaurant named after Adolf Lindstrøm, the favourite chef of the Norwegian polar heroes
The ships facilities are comfortable and optimised to help passengers get the most out of its inspiring destinations. The ships expedition staff are a dedicated group that are on hand to help you get the most out of each destination, with experts in Marine Biology, Polar survival, Oceanography and photography the adventure will be an unforgettable experience.
