In August, Svalbard enjoys the warmth of summer as it transitions into autumn. The enchanting midnight sun dominates the skies, casting light over slopes adorned with purple saxifrage. As the surrounding ice gradually retreats, new opportunities for exploration emerge, ideal for photographing Arctic wildlife. Whales are increasingly spotted in the waters, and more snow-free terrain becomes accessible, revealing walruses, Arctic foxes, polar bears, and migratory birds. This time of the year brings stunning sunsets and a golden light - perfect conditions for photography.
You will be travelling on the M/S Stockholm, a classic vessel originally built in 1953 for the Swedish National Maritime Administration. In 1998, she underwent a complete refit and began a new chapter as a comfortable polar expedition ship. With over 20 years of experience navigating the challenging waters around Svalbard, the M/S Stockholm has consistently demonstrated her ability to access remote locations that are beyond the reach of larger vessels.
