The M/V Hondius is due to undertake its first polar voyages in 2019. When finished the ship will accommodate a total of 176 passengers, the vessel has been custom built for Polar Cruising. Like its sister ships the m/v Plancius and the m/v Ortelius it is named after a celebrated Dutch/Flemish Cartographer, in this case, Jodocus Hondius.
The ship has a high standard of accommodation and a strong focus on outdoor adventure. The activity programme includes options like camping, mountaineering, zodiac cruises, scuba diving and photography.
Some voyages will operate ship-based Helicopter trips to the Ross Sea, while others will provide the thrill of seeing Emperor Penguins in the Weddell Sea. Ski and sail activities are also available in Spitsbergen and Greenland. With so many specialised departures to choose from we suggest getting in touch with a Polar specialist who will be able to talk you through the details and find the best voyage for you.
The m/v Hondius will be the first vessel to be built to ice class “LR PC6” and will meet the highest demands for Lloyd’s register for Polar Class 6 vessels. The Hondius has a total of 85 staterooms in six categories.
Like her sister ships, The Hondius has rigid-hulled inflatable boats (Zodiacs) these are used for landings in remote areas during your voyage.
The Hondius was designed to cope with the extreme conditions found in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans. The vessel boasts fast zodiac boats, sea kayaks and a covered marina platform for water-based outdoor activities. There is a deck with observation lounge and a separate room for readings.Search for Cruises on Hondius
