With a maximum of 134 passengers, the G Expedition provides an intimate, small-ship cruising experience with a focus on exploration. The ship was completely refurbished in 2009 and has been converted into a perfect polar explorer with an ice-strengthened hull, stabilisers, large observation decks and a fleet of zodiacs ready to get you onto the ice. It also features a heated mudroom which ensures extra comfort when preparing for your excursions.
On-board, the ship boasts spacious cabins, each featuring ocean- facing windows or portholes. Decor is smart and comfortable with each cabin offering a private bathroom, storage and a dressing table. Superior cabins and suites are on the top deck of passenger accommodation and offer full-length picture windows for incredible polar views.
The ship has a range of large common areas including the Discovery Lounge, where daily briefings are held by the expedition leader. The ship’s open bridge policy and high staff-to-passenger rating of 10:1 means a fun, inclusive atmosphere. There is also a 24-hour coffee & tea station and a bar that is open in the evening, serving a range of beverages. In the ship’s restaurant, the expert chefs prepare 3 delicious meals per day - breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style and dinner is a la carte. On the top deck, you will find the bar, which leads onto a large BBQ deck area at the back of the ship and hosts light entertainment in the evening.
With an Ice Class of 1B, the G Expedition is sturdily built for exploring one of the most remote areas on the planet and provides comfort and safety even in rougher weather. It’s a great choice for those looking for a comfortable base from which to explore the polar regions.
Polar Specialist Ben Rowley says; "MS Expedition is a tried and tested favourite of many in the polar regions. Accommodation is simple but comfortable and a great place from which to explore. It has excellent outer decks and a bow that’s often open in good weather – great for watching whales from. All but the Suite cabins are the same size meaning everyone gets a good cabin, regardless of your spend."
