For over 20 years, Poseidon Expeditions has been operating expedition cruises to the polar regions and beyond. This 11 or 12-day itinerary is one of their most popular, and best-value, voyages to explore the mesmerising Great White Continent. You’ll have the opportunity to venture into this world of ice and witness its incredible wildlife, including vast colonies of penguins.
Every day will offer something different as Poseidon will run your cruise with a focus on exploring as much as possible. Expect up to 2 landings per day using the ship's fleet of Zodiacs, accompanied by the expert team of expedition crew. In addition to the standard landings programme, Poseidon also offer kayaking, camping on ice and other adventure activities, enquire with your Polar Routes Travel Specialist for more information.
When you are not exploring, you can enjoy the facilities of their ship, the Sea Spirit. Carrying just 114 passengers she is not only small, but also very comfortable. She boasts all-suite accommodation and even the lead-in category has over 21m2 of room including a sofa area and private bathroom. In the public areas, enjoy delicious cuisine in the ship’s restaurant and a drink at the well-stocked bar complete with piano. On the top deck, the ship can take advantage of any good weather and host a BBQ plus you will also find a hot tub - a gin & tonic in here while watching the icebergs pass you by, is a must!

Welcome to Ushuaia, known as the southernmost city in the world. Upon your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel where you can take the time to settle down before exploring the city at your own pace, taking advantage of a variety of options for dining and souvenir shopping in the city centre.
The following afternoon, you’ll be transferred to the pier where the expedition team will greet you before boarding the M/V Sea Spirit. Take time to explore the ship and get comfortable in what will be your home during the incredible adventure ahead. You’ll sail towards true wilderness through the Beagle Channel on your first evening onboard the ship.
As you leave Tierra del Fuego for the extraordinary voyage to the Great White continent, you’ll navigate through the iconic Drake Passage. You’ll see pelagic seabirds including the famous albatross flying over your head. This is the perfect time to admire the fascinating wildlife of the region and to receive briefings, lectures and orientations from the expert guides so as to be fully prepared for your arrival in Antarctica.
The exact places you’ll visit in the icy continent are completely dependent on weather and ice conditions, which is what makes Antarctica so unique. The captain will decide which routes to take and will adjust the specific itinerary accordingly.
The region of Antarctica represents some of the best wildlife and most impressive scenery on Earth – you will feel like you are in another world! The ship will navigate through protected bays and narrow channels, all surrounded by immense glaciers and majestic mountain peaks covered in permanent snow. Icebergs drifting along the coastline come in every size and shape possible, and the waters are filled with incredible wildlife including the magnificent humpback whale and various seal species. But the trip wouldn’t be fully complete without taking some time to enjoy watching the penguins – foraging at sea and waddling on the shores, they form enormous nesting colonies that pepper the whole of Antarctica's landscape.
Your days in the icy continent will be filled with memorable excursions, great presentations from the expert guides and plenty of opportunities to admire wildlife at its best. The South Shetlands are the northernmost islands in Antarctica and likely to be your first sighting of land. Many other places will be visited, such as Deception Island, Lemaire Channel, Gerlach Strait or even whaling and research stations where many nationalities live together.
Farther south, on the Antarctic Peninsula, the vast Gerlache Strait area contains sheltered bays, accessible wildlife, and stunning scenery. Places with names like Paradise Bay are the epitome of everything Antarctic: glaciated mountains, towering icebergs, feeding whales, seals on ice floes, and bustling penguin colonies.
Enriched with the breathtaking experiences of the past few days, you will start the journey back north towards civilisation. Enjoy the free time to relax, share your experiences with your fellow travellers and gather one last time to celebrate the end of the voyage with a farewell dinner.
You will disembark the M/V Sea Spirit after breakfast and say farewell to the crew and your fellow travellers. A transfer will be provided to the airport for your onward flight
