The MV Polar Pioneer is a veteran expedition ship, loved by passengers and expedition staff for over 19 seasons. In 2022 she underwent an extensive refurbishment and has never looked better!
Home to just 53 passengers, journeys aboard the MV Polar Pioneer offer a fantastic small-group experience that can’t be beaten. You can expect a relaxed, social and fun atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to interact with your fellow passengers. The main social area of the ship is the lounge on deck 4 where you'll frequently find yourself listening to an expedition briefing, educational lecture or socialising with your fellow passengers over a few drinks at the bar. The restaurant always has unreserved seating, and each table seats between six and eight passengers. This means you can sit with whomever you wish at mealtimes. There is also a 24-hour coffee and tea station for whenever you need to warm up! Deck 3 is home to the ship’s restaurant, which serves a comprehensive daily-changing breakfast and lunch buffet and a three-course a-la-carte dinner. On deck 2 you will also find a small gym area and sauna – the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.
The small-group atmosphere works perfectly for all types of travellers – couples, smaller groups and solo travellers who are looking to share their experience with newfound friends. Everyone on board tends to be of a similar mindset, all with the common goal of exploring as much of Antarctica as possible!
A range of cabins are available onboard MV Polar Pioneer, each of which has been designed for simplistic comfort. For the budget-conscious traveller, deck 3 has 2 cabins that offer separated triple beds and 9 cabins that offer separated twin beds along with a wash basin, writing desk, cupboard and porthole. These cabins all share five separate bathrooms.
For more comfort, decks 4 and 5 have 11 twin cabins that offer separated twin beds along with a writing desk, cupboard, window and private bathroom. Deck 5 also has two Mini-Suites that offer a double bed plus a lounge area, writing desk, cupboard, window and a private bathroom. There is also one Captains Suite, which is the largest cabin available and offers a double bed plus a lounge area, a large writing desk, a cupboard,dual-aspect windows and a private bathroom.
